Two Victims Revealed in the Ivy League School Incident as Law Enforcement Press On With Search for Killer.
Two students who lost their lives in the recent violent attack in Providence were being remembered Monday – amid a widespread hunt for their assailant carried on following the release by authorities in Rhode Island of the sole person of interest in the case.
Honoring a Lost Student
Ella Cook, a second-year student from Alabama, was remembered as “a wonderful, steady, devout, shining presence”, according to the Cathedral Church of the Advent, Birmingham, which offered condolences for her at a ceremony on Sunday.
Her role included the vice-presidency of Brown’s chapter of the College Republicans organization, as the club stated. The White House press secretary also expressed words of sorrow publicly, saying in part: “Words cannot express. Thinking of her family and friends, especially her parents.”
An International Student
The other deceased individual was an Uzbek national named MukhammadAziz Umurzokov, an Uzbek national in his initial year at the Ivy League university, according to relatives.
His name was confirmed by Uzbekistan’s foreign ministry.
“He possessed remarkable kindness, humor, and intelligence. His ambitions were lofty of entering the field of neurosurgery and helping people,” Samira Umurzokova, his sister said in a online post.
What Happened
An additional nine individuals were hurt in the weekend shooting in the engineering building of Brown’s university in Providence, during the school’s final exam period.
