Former Physician Charged with Sexual Assault Allegations Involving Thirty-Eight Individuals in His Care
Legal authorities have announced that a former physician has been charged with carrying out sexual assaults involving thirty-eight individuals who were patients.
The Serious Charges
The accused, Nathaniel Spencer from Birmingham is accused of dozens of acts of sexual assault – comprising acts against children younger than 13 – spanning the period from 2017 to 2021.
One senior CPS official stated, “Our prosecutors have worked at length to assist a thorough and intricate police inquiry, carefully reviewing the available evidence to establish that there is a strong case to proceed to trial and that it is in the interest of justice.”
The Police Inquiry
The charges follow what police called a “detailed inquiry” into alleged sexual offences at two hospitals: the Royal Stoke university hospital and Russells Hall hospital.
Spencer is due to appear at the local magistrates' court on 20 January.
List of Offences
The charging documents said the forty-five sexual offences include:
- Fifteen counts of assault.
- 17 counts of penetrative assault.
- Nine counts of assault on a minor under thirteen.
- 3 counts of penetrative assault on a child under thirteen.
- One count of attempting to assault by penetration.
Authorities are urging individuals with information to get in touch with the relevant police force.
