Chiefs Acknowledge Alleged Abuse Claims Involving Wide Receiver Rashee Rice

The Kansas City Chiefs released a comment on Wednesday evening stating they have knowledge of claims of abuse circulated in online accounts by a former girlfriend of player Rashee Rice and had been in contact with the league office.

The team omitted the name of the player specifically in their statement and said they would have “nothing more to add at this time”.

Allegations Posted on Social Media

Dacoda Nichole Jones, who likewise did not name the athlete by name, shared a set of images on Instagram that appeared to show signs of physical abuse. Jones did say the individual in question was the father of her children, and it is known she has kids with Rice, whom the team drafted in the 2023 draft.

No official complaints were available in the Kansas City suburb where the incident is said to have occurred.

Rice's Prior Legal Issues

The receiver was absent for the initial part of this NFL campaign due to an NFL suspension for his involvement in causing a crash on a Texas roadway that resulted in several individuals injured. Rice was given 30 days in jail and five years’ probation after pleading guilty to serious offenses.

Statistically, he concluded the season with 53 receptions for 571 receiving yards and five TDs as the Chiefs went 6-11 and failed to qualify for the postseason for the first time in a decade.
